Tuesday afternoon we were sitting outside of Hog Alley
enjoying some wings when we hear crunch and seen a car
flip over on its side while trying to turn into the parking
lot. The car was hit broadside by a car coming from the
opposite direction. I and another RC from Rock River
ran over to the scene to assess the situation while I
had someone call 9-11, and a 4th person gets my 1st aid
kit from the bike. (yes, having the red cross sticker
on the saddle bag makes it easy to locate ). We found
3 persons in total, fortunately there were no serious
injuries. We made sure the scene was safe and secure.
The patients were mobile, so we got them away from the
vehicles and then assessed them for any injuries until
the EMT’s arrived. All 3 persons had minor injuries
that were attended to. We had the people remain still
and assured them until we were able to let the fire department
take over. I also able to direct people to make sure
that the roadway remained clear for the responding emergency
vehicles.

WHY ASMI?
Brothers & sisters taking care of each other
ASMI classes are motorcycle crash specific! When a trauma results in CPR the victim only has a 1% chance of survival. We must do everything we can to avoid getting to that point!!! ASMI classes are for both the average rider and for the Professional Rescuer. What are you willing to do for your fellow rider. Are they willing to help you?

ASMI Hosted the First National Motorcycle Conference Dedicated to Motorcycle Safety
The conference was not funded using any government funding - by bikers/for bikers!

Officer Wes Symonds demonstrated cornering manuevers
Rescue Riders did a live demonstration of a trauma scene with
ASMI's PACT and ABCSS of Trauma
Nationally Known Guest Speakers addressed all six motorcycle safety educational categories derived from the National Agenda for Motorcycle Safety:

| ASMI training in action !
We
were out this morning on 173 just west of 45 and about
12 sec in front of us 2 bikes went down. I have never
witnessed something like this before and hope I never
do again. They were riding in a group - so there were
plenty of people in front of us to handle the downed
riders - my ASM kicked in - I stopped as soon as it
was safe - got off my bike and stopped traffic. My
friend went up to see if anyone called 911 and stopped
traffic from a cross street. Seemed that the guys
that went down managed to be bruised and scraped but
not seriously harmed. Their crew got them to the side
of the road, administered first aid and took care
to secure the bikes out of the road. I nearly got
run over because a guy in a white pick up with an
ATV in it couldnt wait an additional 75 sec (literally)
for the last bike to be pushed out of the road - after
he yelled at me, nearly hitting me, he then went up
the road to get in the middle of the bike being moved
so he... Mr I Am So Much More Important... could go
on with his day. I hope HE (Precision Concrete Cutters)
NEVER finds himself or his family in a situation like
this! thanks to ASM training I knew what I could do
to help! Rather than stand around wondering. Lesson
Learned - Don't follow a car too close - they might
decide to stop and turn left ... and don't remove
your tour pak with the @#%#^ first aid kit in it and
then not put the ##%$ kit in your saddle bag... DOH!

ASMI Statement of Purpose
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration 1.2% of Roadway crashes involve motorcyclists but 9.5% of Roadway fatalities were motorcyclists! The purpose of ASMI's Bystander Assistance Programs are to reduce injuries and fatalities to motorcyclists through First Response Education. We also expect to reduce rescuer injury through proper training. Our programs, based upon the US DOT First Responder Curriculum, are focused on Trauma rather than First Aid (which is low level trauma) and CPR (Heart attack and choking). All classes include a Lead instructor who is EMT or higher in medical training. For the price of a piece of chrome you can receive this invaluable training in just one to two days. Don't put off YOUR training.
